Dietmar Garn is a multifaceted guitarist that plays with Los Gringos Locos, among others. His roots are in classical, blues, jazz and rock.
Born in 1969, he received his first guitar as a Christmas present in 1980. He later studied classical guitar at the „Musikhochschule“ in Cologne/Aachen and the Kassel music academy and also studied electric guitar at the Munich Guitar Institute (MGI). His classical guitar abilities gave him many awards and prizes - for example the 1. Prize at the 43rd Tokyo International Guitar Competition 2000, one of the biggest and most important guitar competitions worldwide. But as mentioned earlier his roots are also in rock, blues and jazz and he already played in those styles with professional musicians at the age of 14. He has been giving many performances with the band Los Gringos Locos, a band that really profits from his virtuoso guitar playing. His main style on the electric guitar can be summoned as a foundation in blues with influences from jazz, classical, progressive rock and fusion. Players that influenced Dietmar are A. King, W. Montgomery, D. Reinhardt, J. Hendrix, J. Satriani and Y. Malmsteen as well as classical guitar composers like A. Barrios, H. Villa-Lobos and R. Dyens. Also the violin and guitar compositions by N. Paganini and Baroque composers S.L. Weiss and J.S. Bach had an impact on him. Thanks to his broad style spectrum he is a very sought-after live and session player. He contributed to countless studio productions with his incredible playing and his mastery of the classical guitar has been released on many CDs and videos in Germany, Japan and Italy. Next to his artistic activities on the electric and classical guitar he is also a busy guitar instructor. In addition to workshops and master classes at international guitar festivals he teaches privately at his Guitar Academy Dietmar Garn in Usingen Kransberg, close to Frankfurt/Main in the Taunus region. Dietmar about his new Diablo Pro: The Diablo Pro is my most versatile guitar, from Blues to Shred everything goes. The brilliant workmanship and the stylish look combined with the light weight for long gigs are superb. I love this guitar!
